Working Lunch Wednesday
“Conservation Conversations”

A new format of our virtual education series is coming later this fall! Production has wrapped, and we are excited to bring you a podcast hosted by NFLT board Member Rick Hoffman with special guests Ramesh Buch, Kim Hall, Kala Neighbor, and Rianna LaChapelle. The fall series contains 4 episodes, and a link to view each will be dropped here starting late September 2026. An email notification will also go out with the episode information when it becomes available.

Kayak Tour of Bull Family Preserve
We’ll explore the salt marsh that comprises the Bull Family Preserve, a 212-acre property on the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway donated to NFLT in 2023. Options for this paddle include BYOK (bring your own kayak), borrowed single kayak or borrowed tandem kayak. We will limit sign-ups to ~18 participants.

Wildflower Tour at Wetland Preserve (Partner Preserve)
On this exclusive tour, you’ll have the opportunity to meet Wetland Preserve owners Ben and Louann Williams and hear all about their land stewardship practices on their beautiful property in Putnam County. The journey will begin in golf carts, but some walking on uneven terrain is optional. Wear close-toed shoes, long pants and sleeves and sun protection for this experience.

Wildflower Tour at Little Rain Lake Preserve
Join us on the Hixon Buggy for a seated, guided tour of Little Rain Lake Preserve in Keystone Heights. This behind-the-scenes tour will showcase recent prescribed fire success and if nature holds true, the colorful native wildflowers will be on full display!

Wed, Oct 14, 10 AM – 12 PM

Pontoon Boat Tour(s) of Thorton’s Family Preserve
All aboard NFLT’s pontoon boat as we cruise along Thornton’s Family Preserve, 388 acres of primarily salt marsh habitat, where hundreds of roseate spoonbills, egrets, herons, and kites can be spotted almost year-round. We’ll board at the Egans Creek Boat Ramp on Atlantic Ave. in Fernandina Beach. Depending on interest in the cruise, we plan to offer multiple trips in the same day. Each tour will be 45 minutes to one hour.

2^nd Annual Salty Soiree presented by Pam and Joe Hart
NFLT’s 2026 Salty Soirée, presented by Pam & Joe Hart, will be held on Sunday, October 25, 2026, from 5:00 – 8:00pm at Fort Clinch, on the beach.  There will be cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, an oyster roast and low-country shrimp boil with fixins’, live music, and dancing in the sand.  Join NFLT to celebrate Amelia Island land acquisitions and share the beauty we work to protect. Tickets are $150 each for individuals and $75 each for young professionals. We hope you can join us!

Volunteer Clean Up at Matanzas River Preserve
The recently acquired 4-acre parcel off of A1A needs a bit of a face lift. This opportunity is an all-hands-on-deck clean up effort. We’ll provide the trash bags – you bring the working gloves and muscle! Many hands make light work, so invite a friend for this workday and make a noticeable difference in a short timeframe. Parking is along Gene Johnson Rd (turn at the intersection of A1A and Gene Johnson Road in the Summer Haven community in Flagler County).

Volunteer on Giving Tuesday
We’re switching up the format for this year’s Giving Tuesday effort on Tuesday, December 1, and we need your help! This will be an all-day phone-a-thon to thank donors and ask for support on this national day of global giving. More details will be provided closer to the event. If you are interested in learning more, email Abby (acarden@nflt.org).

Sand Pine Holiday Tree Harvest at Little Rain Lake Preserve
Back by popular demand is the 3^rd Annual Sand Pine Holiday Tree Harvest at Little Rain Lake Preserve in Keystone Heights. We need volunteers as well as participants for this event. Help us make the sandhill habitat desirable for longleaf pine seedlings and the many animals who inhabit the area by removing fast-growing and overcrowding sand pines. These make cute Charlie Brown-style trees for your holiday decorating purposes while opening the landscape for the local wildlife. Last year, the rain didn’t stop more than 80 people visiting the preserve, and we expect this year’s event to be even busier!

Exclusive Tour of Camp Blanding
Did you know NFLT works closely with Camp Blanding Joint Training Center (CBJTC) and other Northeast Florida military installations to provide base buffering through land acquisitions? This special tour, provided by Matt Corby, Installation Environmental Manager at Camp Blanding, will further explain the partnership as we traverse the property. This opportunity will consist of ~2-miles of hiking throughout the tour, though there will be breaks for learning moments as well as driving to various locations. Plan to wear close-toed shoes, long sleeves and pants, wear bug spray and sun protection, and bring a refillable water bottle and packed cold lunch.
