Position: Seasonal Fire Technician (2 Positions Available)
Supervisor: Land Manager / Land Management Specialist
Location: Primarily Clay County and Putnam County
Term: March 10 through August 7, 2026
Wage: $19.00 per hour, 24 hours per week.
Position Description:
North Florida Land Trust is looking to hire two (2) seasonal fire technicians for the spring and summer fire season. This position will work closely with the NFLT Stewardship department to accomplish resource management goals surrounding the use of prescribed fire on NFLT preserves.
Responsibilities:
- Fire line creation, preparation and rehabilitation with the use of hand tools, small gas-powered equipment and heavy equipment such as farm tractors, track loaders, etc.
- Assist as crew on prescribed fire implementation on NFLT preserves.
- Join NFLT staff with local partnership fire assistance.
- Post-fire data collection.
Position Requirements:
- Possession of NWCG Basic Wildland Firefighter certification: S-130, S-190, L-180.
- Enthusiasm for environmental conservation and land management.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Physical fitness and a willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to successfully complete pack testing requirement.
Additional information
- This position also provides opportunities to learn about using GIS in a field setting, native and non-native species identification, power equipment and chainsaw use, heavy equipment use, equipment maintenance, and much more.
- The workday obligations are 3 days during the business week, 8:30am-4pm.
- Opportunities for additional hours may occur if weather windows allow for extra burning days.
